Hardcore liner notes nerds and live performance aficionados will be familiar with the name Lakecia Benjamin. In addition to her stellar work with her group Soul Squad, she has also brought her Alto Saxophone with her for performances with Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Clark Terry, and many others.
This past week, Ms. Benjamin has let her latest album, Rise Up, become available to the masses. Thanks to the gang-gang over at New York’s own Ropeadope, Lakecia offers 13 cuts of funk and jazz fusion goodness that you should not miss out on. The talented musician is also a capable and fulfilling vocalist, as well as a dope arse saxophonist.
